Charlotte’s Nursery

Welcome to the sweetest room in our home, the nursery. I've dreamt of the day I'd be decorating a special space for our baby, so when the time came to transition an unused bedroom into a warm, playful retreat, I was overjoyed. I immediately started pulling items I had stashed away- an antique pink marble lamp with crystal accents, a petite blush ceramic flower, a framed piece of Nancy Noel artwork, an antique walnut chest with brass bow hardware, and lastly, children's books I purchased almost a decade ago on my twenty-first birthday trip to Paris.

At first, I did not have an inclination whether we were having a boy or girl. But now looking back on it, everything I had collected over the years was truly meant to live in a little girl’s bedroom. The universe and my Pinterest board were strongly telling me we would welcome a bow adorned bundle of joy. When I saw each of these pieces while out at antique stores or traveling, I had an incredibly strong pull that they must live in our future nursery. It simply worked out where everything I had collected now has a special place in Charlotte’s room, and I am loving this pink-filled life as a girl mama.

When I began the nursery design, I started searching for floral wallpapers. This one was my favorite, but it wasn’t practical for us to wallpaper Charlotte’s walls since it’s our first home that we will be in for a few years. Therefore, we decided to invest in things we could take with us at that time or items that can grow with her.

My mom and I went to a local fabric store and spent an afternoon flipping through dozens of swatch books, until we finally found a gorgeous embroidered floral linen fabric. We gasped when we saw the beautiful intricacies and handwork of it. A seamstress made custom curtains and a matching lumbar pillow for the glider.

From there, we pulled the beautiful nude blush wall color and green velvet piping for the glider from the floral fabric as well. (My other favorite pink paint option was from Farrow and Ball.) I love to work from an inspiration point like a fabric or wallpaper swatch, a piece of art, or a rug and build the room from there with complimentary finishes. For Charlotte’s nursery, the floral embroidered fabric was really the inspiration for the rest of the room design. Once we found it, everything else naturally fell into place.

We chose a charming white crib that is made from heavy, sturdy wood with very classic spindles. If we are blessed with another baby in the future, this will be the same crib we use again. So, it was important that it last and look timeless. We were impressed with its quality when we saw it in Crate and Barrel. I also loved this similar crib from Serena and Lily. A Pehr felt mobile was the perfect addition to hang above her crib. Our swan mobile is sold out, but there are similar precious mobiles here.

I liked the floating modern look of these acrylic bookshelves since her chest and crib are traditional. We continued this with two acrylic frames featuring her sweet gowns that she wore as a newborn. Both were very easy to install! Pottery Barn Kids is a great source for other cute decor. We love this gold bow mirror, kids chair, floor lamp, sheets, and quilt from PB Kids.

We recently hosted dear friends from Germany. When they walked into Charlotte’s room, they described it as abundant with love. That was the best compliment I think we could ever receive about this space. I hope it always exudes warmth and love for our sweet baby girl!
